February 16, 2023: Nearly seventy alumni, students & friends pitched in to row 8,393,517 meters in the annual C2 January Virtual Team Challenge
(JVTC). For the challenge rowers had to row as many meters as
possible between January 1 and January 31 then log their daily meters using the Concept 2 Logbook. The results were then ranked against
other teams. The SARA team finished in 33rd place out of 761 teams -- close to last year's 32nd place finish!
Thank you to everyone that participated.
The combined Case/SARA team beat the combined UC student and alumni team from University of Chicago
by over 1.3 million meters -- a crushing result! We also took top honors for the "education" category amongst all teams for another year in a row.
Our alumni beat the UC alumni for the ninth year
in a row. Due to lingering impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic many students didn't have access to ergs so they again did not race against the UC students this year.
The upshot is that everyone on the team - students and alumni - that completed the 200km got hats this year!
Leading the charge for SARA this year were alumni Dan Bachmann and Luke Fakult with both logging over 300km!
The top undergraduate finisher was Nick "Loopin" Lopez in 3rd place overall and 244,432m.
Twenty-six people passed the 200km mark this year to earn a free hat.
Congratulations to everyone and a special thank you to the 19 alumni earning their 2023 hat.
